ABOUT US
大村國小
Students
There are about seven hundred and fifty students in Dacun school. Five classes in each grade, and twenty-two to twenty- five students in each class. Most of the student’s mother tongue is Mandarin, and a few of the students are new immigrant children. Besides, we offer classes designed for every student, including gifted programs and those with special needs. We also have some after school clubs and school teams, letting students have a chance to explore different interests and find out their talents in every aspect.
Teachers
The staff in our school have a common vision of cultivating talented individuals and providing high quality of teaching, so that each of our students will be equipped to dynamically connect to their life, and be able to interact with the world. Attending workshops, practicing multiple teaching methods, inviting fellow teachers to observe and join in classes are the ways we improve teaching skills and enhance pedagogical content knowledge.
Curriculum
Our school’s curriculum is based on the Guidelines of 12 Year Basic Education, having Chinese, math, English, science, social studies and so on. Students start formally learning English in third grade. In recent years, we also implemented a bilingual life curriculum in first and second grade, and bilingual music class in fifth and sixth grade. We even develop a school-based curriculum that emphasizes reading and international language exchange, so that students are able to gain more sights of the neighborhood and love our hometown.
Environment
Dacun Elementary school was founded in 1914, and located in Changhua County, which is an agricultural district of the east coast in Taiwan, surrounded by paddy fields and a variety of wildlife. Dacun is famous for “purple diamonds,” which are Kyoho grapes. Among the grapes grown in Taiwan, one out of every two grapes come from Changhua County, and the output of Dacun Township is among the best in the county. Hence, we develop different courses about grapes, including food and agriculture education.
Resources and Projects
iPads, VR equipment and Green Mech class are available for students and teachers to use when having classes which combine with technological aids. We also have some projects with different countries, such as having international video classes and sending travel teddy or Flat Stanley to Japan, Poland, Egypt, Poland, Netherland and so on. In these classes and projects, students not only can learn how to implement what they have learned in their real life, but also broaden their horizons.
Values and Vision
“4C Global Citizen” is our school’s vision, hoping students can achieve these values: taking initiative, engaging in interaction, and seeking the common good. As for teachers we encourage students to become spontaneous and motivated learners, leading students to appropriately develop the ability to interact with themselves, others, society, and nature.
